Members of the Appropriations Committee of the South Dakota legislature have been working ahead on the budget process, meeting with the so call big five state departments and setting up subgroups to work on those department budgets.

Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says the smaller groups can dig deeper..

Hunhoff says they are getting more information from those departments and how they are spending their dollars….

Hunhoff says they are finding many departments don’t spend all they are allocated…

Hunhoff is chairing subgroups for the Departments of Social Services and Corrections.
