South Dakota lawmakers repealed most of IM22 during the session. That voter approved initiative would have created an ethics commission, limited contributions from lobbyists, and set up public financing of state campaigns.

Representative Mike Stevens of Yankton says the public financing piece was the trigger for the repeal….

Stevens says a majority of legislators felt that something needed to be put in place to replace most of IM22………

Stevens says a summer study will look at other possible replacement provisions…

Supporters of IM22 said the replacement legislation was not as strong at the original law, and they are considering their options.
