South Dakota House Speaker Mark Mickelson of Sioux Falls is sponsoring a Joint Resolution that would repeal the right of voters to petition constitutional amendments onto the ballot.
Mickelson says it would be another level of protection for the constitution……
Currently either the legislature or voters can place an amendment on the ballot.
Mickelson says there has to be a long term view on amending the constitution……
Mickelson says he is looking to reset the process as it was before it was changed in the 1970s…………
The resolution was referred to the House State Affairs Committee. A hearing date has not yet been set.
