The South Dakota House voted 47 to 21 to pass the half cent sales tax increase yesterday. That bill is a critical part of Governor Dennis Daugaard’s plan to increase teacher pay. The bill was passed on reconsideration after falling one vote short last week.

Representative Ray Ring of Vermillion said no one in the legislature should be proud of low paying jobs….
Representative Jacqueline Sly of Rapid City, co-chair of the Blue Ribbon Task Force, closed out debate just ahead of the vote….
Two members who voted no last week flipped to yes, while one supporter from last week voted no to provide the margin.
