During a meeting of the Legislatures Executive Board this week, there was some discussion of a new tax to fill the gap caused by online sales. A so called “box tax” could add up to five dollars to the cost of packages delivered by Fed Ex, UPS, and other delivery services.
South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard says talk of any new tax is premature…..

Daugaard says state government can stay on budget….

Sales taxes trail projections by about eleven million dollars so far this year. Daugaard says it doesn’t mean there is a crisis looming….

Some legislators are concerned that the lower trend in sales taxes will spill over into next year’s session.
