There have been reports in the last couple of weeks highlighting problems with employee turnover at the Human Services Center in Yankton, and also the number of injuries that employees have sustained from dealing with agitated patients in the mental hospital.
Governor Dennis Daugaard says the Department of Social Services, who over sees the hospital, should be open to further inspections…..
Daugaard says the numbers of injuries reported at HSC are not compared to any other institution….
Many workers had complained that administrators did not listen or react to their complaints. Daugaard says new Administrator, Troy Jones, will now take a more active role….
Daugaard says Jones, who has been on the job about two weeks, has already spent time in the wards, talking to employees about their concerns. A surprise federal inspection also raised some issues about patient treatment, and qualifications of the nursing staff.
