South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard says he didn’t want state school districts to face the possibility of costly legal challenges over gender issues.
He vetoed the bill earlier this week………….

The House failed to override that veto.
Daugaard, in his weekly legislative briefing, says they continue to stay in touch with federal officials over possible Medicaid expansion….

The Governor put off discussion of the issue during the remaining days of the 2016 session. Daugaard says he may call a special session of the legislature if they can work out details of payments between the state, the Indian Health Service and Medicaid………….

Legislators return to Pierre Monday for the final full week of the legislative session.
