South Dakota legislators may yet get a chance to decide on Medicaid expansion this summer.
Governor Dennis Daugaard has been working on a plan with the Indian Health Service that would expand Medicaid services to about fifty thousand people, with the federal government picking up most of the costs.
He says he knows legislators will have to be convinced…..
Daugaard says they have information now that shows the state will not have to spend more on the expansion…..
Daugaard says he won’t call a special session until he is sure the votes are there….
Supporters of expansion have said the state could get hundreds of millions of federal dollars to support health care in the state.
