South Dakota Farmers Union is continuing their petition drive for a Constitutional Amendment addressing Legislative Redistricting. President Doug Sombke says for too long voters have had misrepresentation as a result of poor redistricting practices. He says a nonpartisan, Redistricting Commission would end the harmful practice of gerrymandering by the State Legislature and restore voter participation in the state.
He says they’ve been gathering signatures at events like Dakotafest and the South Dakota State Fair and so far they’ve been very successful.
South Dakota Farmers Union has united with a number of organizations to form a coalition to get the Constitutional Amendment on the November 2016 ballot.
