South Dakota Farmers Union members passed resolutions to address two state policy issues during last week’s convention. President Doug Sombke says they want changes in the way education is funded in the state and will also work to pass a ballot measure next November changing legislative redistricting in South Dakota.
Sombke says Farmers Union members want to see more sources for funding education. He says the heavy reliance on property taxes has become a burden.
He says the only national issue members took action on was to re-confirm their support of changing country of origin labeling from a mandatory to a voluntary program. They are backing efforts in the Senate to achieve that.
Doug Somke was also re-elected to his sixth two-year term as President of the organization.
