South Dakota agricultural groups are supportive of Governor Kristi Noem’s ag development and zoning bill announced on Friday. The Governor declared the state is open for business with the proposed changes to zoning and nuisance lawsuits. South Dakota Pork Producers Council President Craig Andersen says they’re encouraged the proposal would require projects to be approved if they meet the county permit rules and they would also have protection against nuisance lawsuits.
South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Eric Jennings says expanding cattle feeding and processing would benefit the state economy.
South Dakota Soybean Association Executive Director Jerry Schmitz says ag and business development trickles down to main street and livestock development is especially beneficial for soybean producers.
The zoning changes would apply to any business planning to start up or expand in South Dakota, including wind development projects and ag processing.
