This week House Republicans released their budget calling for $10 billion in spending cuts for agricultural programs through the next ten years. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says Senators will never vote for the House proposal.

He also says many farmers are suffering from the economic downturn as well as a drought, so agriculture needs increased spending not cuts.

Sombke says House Republicans are ignoring the needs of farmers and ranchers. He says while they don’t get it, consumers do.

The $10 billion cut proposed by House GOP members is much lower than the $70 billion initially proposed. House Ag Committee Chairman Michael Conaway says the $10 billion cut proposal gives them some wiggle room in putting the farm bill together.
