The South Dakota Farm Bureau Centennial Convention wrapped up over the weekend in Sioux Falls with the usual business focus, in addition to some special events. State President Scott VanderWal says as 2017 wraps up they are focused on tax reform and making sure agriculture benefits from the package by retaining key deductions.

The Women’s Leadership Team made 100 blankets for area hospitals at the convention. Chair Cindy Foster also announced a new agricultural education book the team wrote targeted at preschoolers to third graders.

Special guests included former Vikings player Chad Greenway, plus Food Network Chef Aaròn Sànchez conducted a cooking demo and shared his view about the important role farmers play in the food supply.

Resolutions were passed by the delegates dealing with livestock zoning, non-meandered waters, the dicamba drift issue, the wetland delineation backlog and support for the SDSU precision agriculture building.
