The South Dakota Farm Bureau has taken a position on three ballot measures voters in the state will decide upon when they go to the polls Tuesday. President Scott VanderWal says they’re advising people to vote against Amendment W that would change campaign finance laws and create a government accountability board.
He says they are in favor of a YES vote on Amendment X which calls for increasing the percentage of votes needed to approve constitutional amendments to 55 percent.
VanderWal says they also are encouraging a YES vote on Amendment Z, which says a proposed constitutional amendment may embrace only one subject and requiries proposed amendments to be presented and voted on separately.
VanderWal says their Board took a neutral position on Initiated Measures 25 and 24. Measure 25 calls for increasing the tobacco tax to provide funds to help the state’s technical schools. Measure 24 prohibits contributions to ballot question committees and entities not filed with the Secretary of State for the prior four years.
