Despite their financial straits, the South Dakota Democratic Party expects to back candidates for the two statewide races next year.

Party Chair Paula Hawks says they have some people interested in challenging incumbent republican Senator Mike Rounds.

Two candidates are also looking at the US House seat. Brian Wirth of Dell Rapids has already announced his intent.
Whitney Raver of Custer has also publicly said she is interested in the race.

Hawks says a primary election campaign would be good for the candidates and the party….

The party recently closed offices in Sioux Falls and Rapid City after an FEC audit found questionable fundraising and spending.
