Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Jay Williams of Yankton talked about agricultural policy during a campaign stop at WNAX Radio. Williams says he doesn’t believe regulations are major problem for agriculture, even the Waters of the U.S. rule as there are ag exemptions.
Williams says most farmers and ranchers are very environmentally responsible and so they don’t need to be concerned about regulation compliance.
He thinks the most critical issue for farmers is the farm bill. Williams says with the current low commodity price cycle it’s an important tool to help them manage through this financial downturn.
Williams is challenging Republican incumbent John Thune and pointed out his opponent voted against the last farm bill.
