A law passed this year by the South Dakota legislature would allow land owners to set aside buffer strips along lakes and streams, and get a property tax break.
Jay Gilbertson, Manager of the East Dakota Water Development District in Brookings, says they are starting to get questions…..
Gilbertson says they have seen good results with other types of buffer set asides….
The plan would allow land strips to be set aside along five hundred seventy-five lakes, and eleven thousand miles of streams. Gilbertson says the property tax impact to counties would not be great……
Gilbertson says the state Department of Revenue is meeting with county officials this month to explain the details before the law goes into effect on July first.
