The 2020 session of the South Dakota Legislature kicks off in Pierre today. South Dakota Corn Grower’s Association Legislative Director Teddi Mueller says they are anticipating several bills this session on property taxes.
She says one bill calls for adjustments to ag land valuation as it relates to property tax assessment. Mueller says her organization wants to keep the current system in place.
Mueller says with the tighter state budget there could also be a push for increased fees on ag inputs like pesticides.
State lawmakers are also planning to re-introduce a bill to legalize industrial hemp but the Corn Growers Association hasn’t taken a position on it.
