Mexico is considering offering duty free access to Brazil and Argentina for their corn. That is a concern for the corn industry as the country is the largest buyer of U.S. corn and an important market for dried distillers grains. However, South Dakota Corn Growers Association Executive Director Lisa Richardson says Mexico will have a tough time accessing corn from Argentina.

Mexico is shopping elsewhere because of the possibility of the U.S. renegotiating NAFTA. Richardson says they will continue working to keep that market.

Richardson says more certainty is needed with trade and getting Sonny Perdue confirmed as Ag Secretary and the new U.S. Trade Representative in place is key to making that happen.

Richardson says the U.S. currently has its largest carryover of corn in history with 2.5 billion bushels and so exports are critical.
