The Environmental Protection Agency has released mandated volumes for biofuels under the Renewable Fuel Standard. Conventional biofuels levels were set at 15 billion gallons, which was expected. However, South Dakota Corn Executive Director Lisa Richardson says they’re disappointed the agency denied the industry’s request to reallocate the gallons of biofuels waived for small refiners.
She says with the breach in the Renewable Fuels Standard they are preparing to fight EPA in court.
Richardson says they hope that when Andrew Wheeler is appointed to be EPA Administrator the way the agency is handling the RFS and small refinery waivers will change.
She says the waivers have hurt the ethanol industry because they have pushed RIN prices down to around 10-cents and wrecked ethanol margins.
