SD Cities Worry About Changing Sales Tax Landscape

SD Cities Worry About Changing Sales Tax Landscape

While sales taxes have stabilized, and shown some growth in the past couple of months, Yankton City Manager Amy Nelson is concerned about the future path as more retail sales move online….

The city collects two percent of retail sales, which provides a majority of the annual budget.
Nelson says the legislature may have to weigh in on the changing tax environment……

Nelson says retail stores are also responding to the changes…..

Amazon began paying state sales tax earlier this year, but the state revenue department does not break out those reports separately.
