Burger King, the fifth largest fast food chain, is selling a plant based alternative burger called the Impossible Whopper. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director Jodie Anderson says they aren’t overly concerned by the move, but want the product properly labeled so consumers know what their buying.
She says national meat labeling regulations need to be put in place and USDA should take the lead verses FDA or another federal agency.
Anderson says beef that’s produced from an animal can compete with any plant based or lab grown product, so they aren’t threatened by Burger King’s decision.
Impossible Meats had its own problems last month when there was a recall on their plant-based product sent to California restaurants as it contained plastic.
