South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association members gather in Watertown this week for their state convention. Association President Todd Wilkinson says one of the major issues they’ll talk about is the recent rewrite of the General Permit for Confined Animal Feeding Operations. The revisions were put forward by the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

He says they’ll also discuss upcoming state legislative issues and the new Veterinary Feed Directive which goes into effect January 1 of 2017.

Wilkinson also says the recent volatility in the cattle markets will be the topic of a panel discussion.

Wilkinson says he’s enjoyed the past two years serving as president of the association as they will elect a new president at the meeting. He says Larry (stomp-rude) Stomprud of Mud Butte is running for that position.
