United States Trade Representative Ambassador Robert Lighthizer testified and told U.S. lawmakers that failure to ratify the USMCA will have potentially far reaching negative impacts. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Steve Ollerich agrees. He says the consequences of not approving the deal will have severe financial stress on South Dakota’s cattle producers with Mexico and Canada top U.S. beef customers.
He says it’s critical the USMCA get through Congress as quickly as possible.
Lighthizer also told lawmakers the U.S. will have no credibility with its other trade agreements if it doesn’t pass the USMCA. He says without it, the U.S. is showing it don’t stand up for workers, farmers and ranchers.
