A South Dakota legislative task force heard the first take of a buffer bill proposal from Governor Dennis Daugaard.
The Governor vetoed a similar bill passed by this year’s legislature.
Jay Gilbertson, Manager of the East Dakota Water Development District, based in Brookings, was at the hearing before the Agland Oversight Advisory Task Force………https://soundcloud.com/wnax-radio/jay-gilbertson-913a
Gilbertson says the proposal works with an existing list of water bodies in the state…..
Gilbertson says nailing down the costs will be a priority…..
Buffer strips of grassland planted adjacent to lakes and streams will slow the amount of pollution that gets into those waters. The bill would give landowners a property tax break to develop those strips.
