The South Dakota Board of Regents will now allow multi-year contracts for certain head coaches, athletic directors and presidents.
The action came about because the University of South Dakota wanted to offer a multi-year deal to new football coach Bob Nielson.
USD President Jim Abbot says it is part of the move to Division One….
Abbott says the discussion actually began several years ago with the need for a new medical school dean….
Abbott says the contracts will be updated one by one….
Nielson will be paid two hundred fifty five thousand dollars a year.
