The South Dakota Board of Educational Standards held their fourth hearing on the new proposed social studies standards Monday in Pierre.
The standards have become controversial because they were written with the help of an out of state, private college.

The board voted five to two to approve the standards. The Department of Education will now work with schools to implement the new standards in 2024.
