The official report of the South Dakota Blue Ribbon Task Force on Education was delivered to Governor Dennis Daugaard yesterday. The group had numerous meetings since early summer, wrapping up late last month. The Governor had asked the group to find facts and data related to education issues and funding.
Task Force Co-Chair Representative Jacqueline Sly of Rapid City says they found consensus through the process…………

The report recommends moving to an average teacher salary of forty eight thousand dollars, which would require an annual funding increase of about seventy five million dollars. The group recommends increasing the state sales tax to fund that proposal.
Sly says the group also recommends that the entire package be adopted by the legislature…………

Sly says she knows it will lead to difficult decisions and votes for legislators………

Sly says the problems have been building for years, and changes need to be made now to stop that slide.
