A group of commercial beekeepers, growers and environmental activists have filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency for not regulating seeds treated with neonicotinoids. South Dakota beekeeper Bret Adee is part of the lawsuit. He and the other litigants claim the dust from seed coated with neonicotinoids has harmed the environment, including honey bees and birds.
He says the dust problem became very apparent last spring on his operation near Bruce, South Dakota and it damaged several of their hives.
Adee says their dead honeybees were tested by state officials following the dust problem.
The lawsuit was filed in the Ninth Circuit Federal Court in California.
