With Powerball now breaking records for the largest lottery jackpot in history, The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers that scammers could take advantage of the situation to trick people into thinking they are winners.
Jessie Schmidt, State Director of the BBB in South Dakota says scammers are opportunists….
Schmidt says there are ways to verify if you actually are a winner….
Schmidt reminds that you can’t win a contest you didn’t enter, you’re not going to win the lottery if you didn’t buy a ticket and you’re not going to win a sweepstakes if you haven’t registered.
You can go online to bbb.org/scamtracker if you’re unsure.
