The prison population in South Dakota continues to grow, with over thirty-eight hundred inmates now being held. That number is up about ten percent since 2015.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says despite those growing numbers, a new prison is not needed……

Jackley says the state continues to look to alternative programs…..

With many of those in prison tied to illegal drugs, Jackley says the state needs the federal government to help…..

While homegrown meth labs have been shut down, Jackley says the majority of the drug now comes into the state from Mexico.
