FFA members from South Dakota and Minnesota took top honors in the Stars Over America competition at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis last night. Minnesota’s Brett Peterson was named American Star in Agricultural Placement and South Dakota had two winners including Elizabeth Renner from West Central who captured the American Star in Agriscience award.

Shane Mueller of Garretson was named Star in Agribusiness. The awards are based on the member’s Supervised Agricultural Experience project and Mueller says his SAE had humble beginnings.

The award also looks at the FFA member’s leadership and community service activities and Mueller says the Garretson FFA Chapter provided plenty of opportunities to shine in those categories.

He says the process started months ago with the application and built into last night’s Stars over America pageant.

The Star winners receive a cash award and an agricultural experience trip to Ireland this summer.
