School districts across the country are reporting a scam that involves fake invoices for language and math books the schools never bought. The invoices are sent under the fake company name, “Scholastic School Supply” with charges of up to $650. Jessie Schmidt is the South Dakota State Director for the Better Business Bureau, and she says area schools have already reported seeing these invoices…
Schmidt says the scammers are trying to get schools to send money to an address in Las Vegas, Nevada. She says they are attempting to exploit schools by using a familiar name…
Schmidt says districts should pay close attention to who is sending bills and if they come across one of the bogus invoices, districts should not pay it. She says the options are reporting the invoice to the BBB or simply throwing it away.
