Nebraska Legislative Speaker Jim Scheer has concerns about the proposed ballot initiative on property tax relief.
State lawmakers failed to reach agreement on the issue this session. An initiative petition hopes to gain the signatures needed to land on the November ballot.
Scheer says the weakness of the ballot proposal is that while it offers a cut in property taxes, it doesn’t disclose the effect that might have on state government. . .
Some tense, at times personal, debate punctuated legislative debate this year.
But Scheer says the public shouldn’t read too much into that. . .
Scheer says senators can be angry with each other during debate, but usually can put that aside at the end of the day and leave the chamber as friends. Legislators wrapped the 2018 session with one final day yesterday (Wednesday).
