Scam Targets Electric Customers

A phone scam is targeting Nebraska Public Power District Customers.  Several incidents in Kearney and O’Neill have involved calls to customers claiming an overdue electric bill that must be paid right away or their power will be cut off.  NPPD spokesman Mark Becker, says the scammers are using false caller identification to obtain card information…

 

Becker says there are several steps to take if you receive one of these calls…

 

He says the so far, it is mainly businesses being targeted by the scam.  He reminds customers that NPPD does not contact customers by phone to collect payment information.
