Sales of E 85 fuel in Iowa last year set a record surpassing the previous record in 2011. Just less than eleven million gallons were sold, a twenty percent increase.
Iowa Renewable Fuel’s Association’s Policy Director Grant Menke says a strong fourth quarter with over 2.7 million gallons sold helped them reach those record levels.
Menke says the two major factors that spurred record sales of E 85 were both a strong renewable fuel standard and rising RINS. or renewable energy credit prices.
Menke says in order to continue to achieve record sales of E 85 and higher ethanol blends, a strong RFS must be in place to ensure that.
