The next expected Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan of Wisconsin says he’ll only allow a broad based immigration bill to move if a majority of Republicans support it. Minnesota Milk Producers Association President Pat Lunemann says Congressman Ryan understands the immigration issue but whether or not that leads to reform is yet to be determined.
He says overall there’s a shortage of workers in not just agriculture, but the entire economy.
Lunemann says it’s a shame that some opposed to immigration reform believe that most immigrants are illegals and not good workers. He says that’s a huge misconception.
Ryan recently spoke to House conservatives about the process by which immigration legislation would be considered but didn’t talk about specific policy issues.
