A draft decree published by the Russian Ministry of Economic Development reveals that Russia intends to permanently ban meat imports from the United States and European Union. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says Russia isn’t shutting off all meat imports just buying from different sources. He doesn’t think the U.S. can regain that market.
Woodall says there may be an opportunity to change Russia’s mind but only with a new U.S. administration in place.
Russia has imported no meat from the U.S. or European Union this year most of it due to the unrest between them and the Ukraine.
