Russian President Vladimir Putin has moved to retaliate against the United States and other countries that imposed sanctions on Russia because of their interference in the Ukraine. Russia is targeting U.S. pork, soybeans, chicken and nuts. South Dakota Pork Producers Council President Lester Moeller says that retaliation will hurt America’s producers.
Moeller says not only is it hurtful to lose the Russian market, it also will be tough to regain it in the future.
Last year the United States shipped meat and poultry to Russia valued at $ 329 million and also sent $ 157 million worth of soybeans.
