By 2020, Nebraska is estimated to have a shortage of nearly 4,000 nurses. Since the nursing shortage often impacts rural areas first there is a need for medical professionals in those areas. Dr. Naomi Olson graduated in May with her doctorate in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at Creighton University and decided to stay where her roots are in Grand Island to practice medicine.
Olson says she is more than happy in a rural area and so are the people that she serves. She recently met a patient who needed to see a specialist and the options were few.
Olson encourages others to look for jobs outside the metro areas where their services will be greatly appreciated.
