The Pandemic Research for the People Rural Coalition is asking both the Federal and Nebraska State Government to take steps to protect the food system from the negative impacts of the pandemic. Coalition spokesman Graham Christiansen, President Of GC Resolve in Nebraska says they’ve come up with six key steps that need to be taken. He says enforcing and updating anti-trust legislation is the first thing that needs to be done.

He says reform of federal farm policies needs to be implemented as well as re-installment of corporate farming bans in Nebraska.

Christiansen says processing plant workers need better and enhanced protections against the coronavirus as they represent the most important essential workers that ensure the food system operates properly and effectively.

Christiansen says these half a dozen steps are critical in protecting the nation’s food system as well as ensuring national security standards are upheld.
