There is growing concern in rural America about President Trump’s proposal to help pay for his $1 trillion infrastructure plan. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says the President is looking at using a public private partnership to fund infrastructure projects. He says that may work in metro areas but isn’t practical in rural areas.

He says it doesn’t make sense to utilize public private partnership monies to pay for rural infrastructure because there isn’t enough traffic available to make it work.

Steenhoek says while government officials may not find it popular to go to some type of fuel tax to pay for infrastructure, many states have made that system work.

Steenhoek says his organization will continue to work with members of Congress and the administration to find a way to pay for infrastructure upkeep.
