Thursday, Senate Ag Committee leaders Pat Roberts and Debbie Stabenow agreed to compromise language for a national mandatory biotech labeling bill. South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds says it appears to be a good deal and he’s pleased they came to resolution on the measure.
He’s also pleased the compromise pre-empts any state law and doesn’t require labeling of poultry, eggs, meat or milk produced via biotech feeds.
Rounds is hoping the Senate passes the measure next week. It will then go to the House after following their July 4 holiday recess.
Both the National Corn Growers Association and National Council of Farmer Cooperatives are urging the Senate to act quickly on the compromise bill and get it approved and for the House to follow suit as soon as possible.
