Minnesota Twins outfielder Eddie Rosario homered on the first pitch he saw of his major league career against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.
Rosario, who was called up from Triple-A Rochester two days ago, led off the third inning and sent a pitch from Scott Kazmir into the left-field seats.
The rookie smiled as he rounded the bases, sprinted into the dugout and promptly received the silent treatment from his teammates. But it didn’t take long for the Twins’ bench to stand up and start giving out high-fives.
Rosario is the 117th major leaguer to homer in his first at-bat and 29th to do it on the first pitch.
The previous player to homer on his first pitch was Pittsburgh’s Starling Marte on July 26, 2012.
He’s the 13th Twins player to homer in his debut, joining players such as Gary Gaetti, Kent Hrbek and Tim Laudner.
