Infrastructure funding, property tax tweaks and watershed management are major priorities for South Dakota Stock Grower members as the 2015 state legislature goes into session today. Stock Grower’s Executive Director Silvia Christen says there will be a lot of discussion and debate by lawmakers over all three of those.
Christen says one of the most challenging debates will be a proposal to base property taxes on the actual use of the land.
Christen says the challenge for legislators will be to determine what the effect will be for the state’s bottom line and the tax burden on landowners should they choose to move to property taxes being based on actual land use.
