River Levels Dropping

The level of the Missouri River below Gavins Point Dam near Yankton has dropped several feet in the last few weeks as water releases are cut back for winter.

Dave Becker, Operations Manager for the Corps of Engineers at the dam says a very wet August led to higher than normal flows for several months…

Becker says with upstream reservoirs at a good level, they don’t have to cut back any further…

The Corps operating plan allows the flows to go as low as nine thousand cubic feet per second if necessary to conserve water.
