RFA Sees Potential For Ethanol Exports to Mexico

The Renewable Fuels Association sees the potential for more ethanol exports to Mexico as they ramp up to E10. The Mexican Energy Regulatory Commission approved an increase in the maximum amount of ethanol that can be blended in Mexican gas supplies from 5.8 percent to 10 percent. Renewable Fuels Association Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper says this presents an opportunity for the U.S. to export more ethanol and make up for the loss of the third largest market.

He says the U.S. will benefit from Mexico growing their own ethanol industry.

The new E10 rule covers all but the cities of Monterrey, Mexico City and Guadalajara. However, Cooper says that could change down the road.

Cooper says with the E10 approval in Mexico they will now have gas blends consistent with the U.S. and Canada.
