A new economic study released by Iowa State University shows the Renewable Fuel Standard has had an overall positive impact on United States agriculture and the U.S economy. Renewable Fuel Association Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper says the ISU study points out several positive effects.

However, he says what’s misleading about the study is the analysis shows greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced by the RFS in the U.S. but have increased globally.

Cooper says if other countries were following the RFS the way the U.S. does, then their greenhouse gas emissions would be reduced.

Cooper says the ISU study also shows the RFS has boosted the value of the U.S agriculture sector by $14.1 billion or nearly $6,800 per American farm.
