U.S. ethanol exports were down 42-percent in May at 55.7 million gallons, a dramatic drop from the prior month. Renewable Fuels Association Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper says May’s decrease followed several months of strong ethanol exports. He says the decline mirrors the typical seasonal trend.
He says Canada surpassed China as the top customer of U.S. ethanol in May, and the volatility with the Chinese market was another reason for the overall drop of U.S. ethanol exports.
Cooper says another surprise was the increase in DDG exports with China as the top customer of U.S. product in May.
Cooper says 1.06 million metric tons of dried distillers grains were exported from the U.S. in May and year to date exports stand at 4.4 million metric tons. He says if that keeps up the U.S. could export 10.6 million metric tons for 2016.
