Interagency information obtained by the Renewable Fuels Association shows the EPA ignored directives that blending obligations lost to small refinery waivers be reallocated. RFA President and CEO Geoff Cooper says EPA is required by law to consult with those agencies including the USDA, Department of Energy and the Office of Management and Budget. He says all of those groups directed those obligations be reallocated.
He says the EPA also ignored a 2017 court ruling that 2016 RFS waivers be reallocated totaling 500 million gallons.
Cooper says the EPA needs to obey court rulings and follow through with their directives.
Cooper says over the past three years, there’s been four billion gallons of ethanol demand lost due to small refinery waivers. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said at the Farm Progress show this week that President Donald Trump will announce soon a plan to mitigate the small refinery waiver exemptions.
